Well even 1602 takes a few games to really get a foot in the door with it. Same goes for 1701 since its a slightly different from 1602 though the same principal.

So I'm playing Imperator...or whatever the hardest skirmish is. My original plan was to finish all the scenarios before that one first but 1) I lost my saves twice 2) the earlier skirmishes aren't challenging or fun 3) it would take me a better part of a year to achieve that so fluff it, I'll just do the hardest one.
As a result of all that I've gotten further than I have before. I thought the last buildings you got were the big 'ol Mosque and the Imperial Cathedral, but it turns, no, there's more after after that, in that ol' Anno 1404 style of hiding new buildings completely until you see them for the first time. The interesting part is I held this belief that there were no more buildings while simultaneously knowing that all those copper deposits and roses and other seen-but-untouched artifacts lying around where going to be used eventually.
There's even more after unlocking the eyeglasses, right? Because after finally providing my Noblemen with full wine and eyeglasses I was a little disappointed to find they didn't ask for something new, like they usually do. I'm assuming the problem is I don't have enough Noblemen for them to kick up to the next whatever. The problem there is my city is houses coast-to-coast, and worse, holds a meager 2,500 noblemen - I need 10,000 of the bastards to win. Sweet christ. Sending all those supplies to the other side of the map won't do so I'm in the middle of quickly repossessing the Cardinal's neighbouring island.
And I thought I understood the sentiment before.
edit: looking through a couple of other screenies, how does everyone manage their plots? I always put down a warehouse, and build out to fill the warehouse's service circle as efficiently as possible. Looking through alot people build in long rows with multiple Warehouses, which is almost certainly more land efficient, and makes me realise I've been trying to save on warehouses, as well as land space, which makes no sense given how cheap the buildings are. Still, I'm not going to change, I've grown attached to my spidery messes of farms. Much prettier than the min-maxed hedgerows certainly.
Seeing some of the larger scale screen shots posted, I'm beginning to think that I might need to purchase a 9550 quaddy before I purchase this game. Something tells me a more beefy cpu than a 6850 may be a big help.
This game is freaking awesome.
I got it running on my laptop with everything on low... I haven't tweaked the settings yet to see how purrrty it can get before compromising gameplay, but it looks fine on low so I haven't bothered as yet.
Specs FYI:
Asus F3JP Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 @ 1.66GHz
1Gb RAM
ATI Mobility X1700 (256Mb dedicated RAM)
And game guides out for it as yet?
So I'm starting to get better at this game...
But I'm sinking hours into it!!! Massive gaming sessions... It's like Civilization IV all over again...
I'll just build a few more farms... Oh I need some more jerkins for the newest Patricians... etc etc etc etc etc... And what do you know it's 1:00am.
Does anyone know how to complete the mission when you have to recover the key and the copper strongbox, I got the box but I can't get the key.
